There are numerous breast implant problems that many women suffer from after having breast augmentation surgery. This type of surgery is risky, expensive, and painful, and as such it's important that women are aware of their alternatives when it comes to enhancing their bust line.
One of the first breast implant dangers a woman will face directly affects her wallet. Unless the surgery is done to reconstruct the breast following injury or illness, insurance will not cover the costs. The surgeon will charge $3,000-6,000 along with other costs such as tests, pre- and post-operative care, and anesthesia. While some surgeons offer discount fees or lower prices, the advertised price most likely only represents a portion of the overall charge, and a surgeon offering low-cost breast augmentation surgery may not be very well qualified.
Other breast implant problems come with the surgery itself. The surgery involves the surgeon making a pocket of space either in front of or behind the muscle in the chest wall and placing the implant in this space. Bleeding is always a risk during surgery and sometimes this bleeding can be significant enough to require a second surgery.
Post-operative, many women experience significant swelling and bruising that can last for weeks or months. Scars are an unavoidable aspect of surgery and the scars may remain painful for months. Finally, excessive breast and nipple sensitivity or numbness can occur for some women, sometimes permanently.
However, most breast implant problems occur with the implants themselves, not just the surgical procedure. There are two main types of implants: saline and silicone. However, neither type can be expected to last a lifetime: typically breast implants only last about a decade. Women who receive implants can expect to undergo another and sometimes multiple surgeries in later years.
Other breast implant dangers are infections and intolerance. Some women develop infections around the surgical site, and the implant must be removed in order to allow the infection to be treated. Even if an infection does not set in, some women's bodies do not tolerate the implant very well.
Both types of implants run the risk of rupture or leakage, creating further breast implant problems. If a saline implant breaks or leaks, the body naturally absorbs and expels the water, not causing any harm, but the the deflated implant will need to be removed. Silicone implants pose more danger because a broken silicone implant may leak silicone into the body. Since it is not a natural substance, it can cause significant medical problems.
Furthermore, when a saline implant breaks, it deflates and the condition is visible noticeable. However, a defective silicone implant may only be detected through an MMR or ultrasound: a woman may not realize that her silicone implant has ruptured.
Other breast implant problems are more aesthetic in nature. Sadly, some women's “boob jobs” are visible for miles as they are unnaturally high, round, and large. Many women experience capsular contraction, which happens when the scar and tissue around the implant tighten, making the breast feel hard. Overall, some women are simply unhappy with the results of their breast augmentation surgery, feeling that their new breasts don't look or feel natural.
All these breast implant dangers need to be taken into consideration by women who are considering this surgery. The risks should be assessed carefully before making this significant decision.
