Many people buy Wii bundle games for the family to enjoy. In these bundles you will get the Nintendo Wii console, a couple of controllers, various games and probably some things, depending on the bundle. Yet, there may be a nagging worry that you don't want your child to become so involved in enjoying the games that activities such as school work are neglected. So how can parents get that valuable middle ground where your child can still have fun, but also does what is expected?
It is true that some of the games for the Nintendo Wii are such fun that they can become almost addictive. Let's face it, when we really enjoy something it can be extremely hard to put it down and go on to another more mundane activity. Such as cleaning one's bedroom or doing homework.
Therefore, it is beneficial to set boundaries for your child's use of their Nintendo Wii. Take Sophie, her son just loved to play with his games console. She began to worry that perhaps he was playing with the games so much that his homework wasn't taking the priority that it should. She decided to put certain rules in place. When he came home, after his meal he could spend an hour or so on homework after that was done, he could spend a couple of hours on the Wii. Although, at first, this was hard to put into practice, once it became an established routine everyone was happy. Her son had his time to relax, chilling out on the Wii, even having friends around a couple of times a week to play with him on his Nintendo Wii, and both Sophie and her son himself were happy that his school grades were getting better.
Some parents have even set up a system in which the child can earn the privilege to play video games for as long as they desire, on specific days. Although they make sure that certain conditions must be met first. It might also be prudent to make sure you are clear on when the privilege may be used. Some parents have constructed a "point" system which works similar to a bank. Of course every family is different so you will need to see what works best for your family. So you can still buy Wii bundles which will save you money in the long term, without games impacting on essential homework.
