If you are moving house soon, then it is likely you need to think about how to pack everything. It is important to pack up electronic gear safely so that you can continue to enjoy it at your new home. Here's how:
Label each component before disassembling. It can take a lot of time to determine which wires and cords go where for electrical equipment. So, before you begin disassembling your electronics, make some tags. Reconnecting your electronics will be very easy with some small labels on both the cord and the corresponding spot on the electronic equipment. You can either use colors or numbers to match wires and ports. Double check to make sure the stickers are firmly attached so they won't move when you pack and move electronic equipment. (Another way to do it is to take a photo of the back of the equipment with the wires in place, then you have a reference picture when hooking it back up.)
Make sure that your cables are secured. When you go to unpack your electronics, don't leave yourself tangled in a web of wires. Instead, each loop of cable or wire together separately using a twist tie, rubber or other fastening. Reduce stress by folding wires together ready for setting up the equipment in its new location. Misplacing a cord for your electronics is the worse thing that can happen. You'll have no trouble finding everything you need to return to the piece once you move to your new place, since everything will hold together in the same place.
Get some right kind of bubble wrap. A lot of people will find that common packing materials are not good to use when packing electronics. Some of these can actually harm your electronics. Stores sell special bubble wrap that is anti-static. When you go to pack your electronics, it will save them from damage. Place each piece of electronics separately in pink bubble wrap so that no pieces will rub together during the move. Then tape the whole package up securely.
Pack the electronic gear. Your electronics equipment can now be packed. Put the larger pieces down the bottom of the carton and add smaller pieces of electronics equipment on top. Fill in empty areas of the box with more bubble wrap. And if possible, add smaller pieces of electronics equipment on top. Then make sure all holes are filled with loose bubble wrap, so that nothing will move during shipment.
Tag the box accordingly. Once you have finished packing your electronics, just need to close up the box with some tape and label accordingly. Be sure to write 'fragile' and 'heavy' so that the box will be handled with care.
