Maybe a more important question is "Is Microsoft's spyware software any good?" The program has the ability to detect and remove spyware. It also has real-time scanning. This is quite rare in a free spyware program. It is common that you have to upgrade to a 'Professional' (paid) version to get this ability. Tests with other free spyware products show that it compares favorably.
A nice feature is the 'Scheduler' that allows you set a regular time to carry out a scan of your computer. For instance you could set it to run at 8.00pm every night.
Maintaining this type of software so that it is always up to date is a considerable task for any company. With it being Microsoft spyware, you know that the resources are there to make sure that this task is fulfilled.
