Stevenage - Hertfordshire is located 32 miles from London and from the air it is distinctive by its heart shape of the town. This was the first "New Town" to be created after WWII and it offers a glimpse into the past.
One of the most interesting things in this town is the housing. This shows how housing design was successful following the war. Is not for everyone, but architects and those who enjoy WWII history will enjoy how the layout was planned from the center of town. This can be used as a study of city planning and how effective layouts and architecture can be used in modern times..
In the center of town, Old Town is around High Street. This area features old pubs, houses and market shops from the pre-War era. This gives a close look at what life in England was like previously with many of the buildings in the area remaining unchanged since then.
Stevenage Museum has many exhibits that place an emphasis on Old Town. Many photographs of the town are heavily featured in this museum, as well as other paraphernalia. They do make an effort to rotate exhibits out frequently to keep the offerings fresh.
This town also features a 120 acre park at Fairlands Valley Park. This includes an 11 acre sailing lake that can be used for fishing and other water sports as well. They also have a shell a wading pool in the children's play area so everyone can enjoy the water.
Stevenage - Hertfordshire offers a unique view of past generations in England and can help keep your routed to your past. This relaxing town offers interests to the intellectual as well as the outdoors man. Being so close to London, it allows you to take an opportunity for a quick holiday weekend easily.
