The red light error is nothing but the malfunctioning of the Xbox console whenever there is a problem within the console. The console is designed to show some errors along with error codes in order to inform the user about the problems faced by the console. Problems in the console are indicated by two ways, one by means of error code on the screen and the other by glowing of red light in the power ring area. The power ring area is nothing but the four LED lights surrounding the power button. These lights will glow according to the type of error such that the number of lights varies depending upon the type of the error.
THREE RED LIGHTS ERROR
The three red lights error is an error which occurs in most of the consoles. The various types of red light errors in the console are single red light, two red lights, three red lights and four red lights error. The single, two and four red lights error are very easy to solve as they are simple problems like an loose cable connection or a no disc in the DVD drive or problem with game settings. But, the three red lights error is somewhat different from the rest of the errors as this error occurs due to the problems in the hardware of the console.
The three red lights error occurs due to the overheating of the console and as a result the console's hardware components are heated up and cause the motherboard to stop its operation. This leads to the hanging up of the console hence affecting the game in the middle of the play. Thus the users were unable to save the game in the middle thus losing all the game data. The red light error is otherwise called as the "Red Ring of Death" or RRoD.
ECONOMICAL SOLUTION
The three red light error can be solved by providing additional cooling to the console. This can be done by removing the X clamps that supports the heat sinks. The heat sinks are those that help the processors to be cool when they are in operation. But, due to the excess heat developed, they were unable to perform a very effective operation. So to provide enough cooling to the processors the X clamp that holds the heat sinks to the motherboard is removed and then they are fixed directly to the motherboard. This helps the air to cool the processor from beneath.
Repairing can be done on your own as it is very economical when compared to that of giving the console to the service centre. Moreover, Microsoft won't repair modded console at any cost. The advantage of repairing the console on our own is that the cost is very less and the time taken is also very less when compared with that of giving the console to a service center. To complete the repair work successfully, it is highly recommended to watch the repair video tutorials which are available in the internet. These videos will teach you the step by step repair procedure right from the scratch and you can finish the repair work in just an hour or two with basic household tools like screwdrivers and start playing the games right away in your console.
