Nyko Intercooler
Nyko Intercooler
I have a question regarding my XBOX 360 Nyko Intercooler?
My Nyko Intercooler for my XBOX 360 works great, but sometimes it makes a grinding noise when i turn it on. I have to turn the XBOX off and on several times to make it stop grinding. Is this normal? Is there something I can do to end the grinding noise?
idk exactly why but they mess up the xboxs hardware...i used to have one and it eventually made my xbox not work...i had the 3 red rings...it also voids thje warranty if they find out you used it because its not made by microsoft

What started as a microscopic glitch in hardware quickly became a tsunami of dying Xbox 360 game consoles. The "red ring of death" is a general hardware failure, signified by the 3 red lights located on the power button of the Xbox 360s. No error code is shown onscreen, unlike the E74 error and other possible nightmares for Xbox owners. When someone is using the console, the effects of this type of problem include graphical problems, audio glitches, and sometimes the entire system would freeze up. The system could still be shut down, but that didn't eliminate the problem. As the problem became more widespread they developed an Xbox repairs process for it.
Since the malfunction was covered under Microsoft's 3 year extended warranty, those affected with the "red ring of death" were able to request a package for Xbox repairs at no additional cost. The owner would receive a box designed to ship the console, send it off on a trip to Washington state, and in a few weeks your fully operational (or in some cases brand new) Xbox 360 was at your door. At first, it was a dreaded experience for a few gamers. As months went by, more people came forward with complaints and requested their "Cardboard Coffin" as those with working consoles called the Xbox repairs packages. Towards the end of 2008, the Xbox 360 received a failure rate of up to 33%. This hardware failure made it the highest console failure rate in video game history.
As the Xbox repairs came in, many began to discover the cause of the failing hardware, or at least what was failing. One piece of the puzzle was that the GPU was attached using solder that is free of lead instead of the older tin or lead solder. This caused the GPU to become loose or create cracks in the motherboard after reaching high temperatures inside the console. Once people heard the phrase "high temperatures", they began to buy cooling units, like the Nyko Intercooler, or put their Xbox 360s out in the open. However, the "red ring of death" was still affecting systems all over. Microsoft stated that cooling units not licensed by them could be one of the causes and was a violation of the warranty. So anyone sending in the console with the unit attached, or showing signs of one being used, were sent back or discarded by the owner. Before the problem got worse, Microsoft went to the console manufacturers and redesigned the inner chipset.
Whatever the cause, it all came down to this: once someone used their Xbox 360 for an extended period of time, it got hot enough to damage part of the hardware. Depending on how much time it's being used, it could be either a legitimate defect or another case of owner abuse. All newer consoles have been fixed according to Microsoft, but a few who didn't have it before still keep the Xbox repairs team busy. The moral of this story: if it gets too hot, wait until it cools down.
-Tom McFay is a specialist with Xbox repairs and works for a local company in Memphis that fixes them.
