who from Mario, NES or classic video games would make good chess pieces?
i know Q-Bert would be a good Bishop, and f roger would be a good Rook, and Yoshi would be a good Knight, toad stool a good Pawn, but what eles.
also make a distinction for light (good guys) and dark (bad guys)
and does this already exist?

This is the closest I found to an already-existing Nintendo chess set, but it is just Mario characters.
I think its an awesome idea what you're doing, and here are just a few ideas:
Light: Definitely Mario as the King! Toadsworth might make a good Bishop, and Yoshi (if not Epona) would be an ideal knight. Samus could be a Queen, I agree with Toads being Pawns, and Birdos could be Rooks.
Dark: Bowser or Ganandorf would have to be King and Koopa Troopas as Rooks, and Goombas as Pawns.
