He has been known to start rumors, display negative photos and blab about the personal lives of many stars. He has gained very little respect and many people think he's Hollywood sleaze but the fact is his website generates heavy traffic and somehow he manages to get himself into the limelight along with many famous people.
Mario Armando Lavandeira is his real name but we'll call him Perez. He was born in Miami and is of Cuban decent. He started learning English shortly after he attended school. Perez earned his Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts in 2000 from NYU- not too shabby. He tried to start an acting career but it didn't work out. Perez went to work for the gay community and joined LGBT Rights Organization as an assistant in media relations. He had a few more jobs before his blogging career took off.
Perez claims that he started blogging because it's easy. He has also been seen on television with his short-lived show Perez Says. He was on the reality show Flab to Fab and MTV's Celebrity Rap Superstar show. He has made appearances in many music videos and on Extra. Perez started his own radio show in 2008 to follow up the blogs on his website and has been a guest on Howard Stern's radio show. His website is famous for showing celebs in the worst possible light for viewer's entertainment. He is good friends with Paris Hilton and has been criticized of favoring her by talking about her shining moments and only showing the best pictures of her.
Perez is not immune to getting a taste of his own medicine for insulting celebs. Black-Eyed Peas singer Fergie bashed Perez in her 2006 song titled Pedestal. Perez has embarrassed himself before by starting rumors and getting caught red handed. He wrote that Fidel Castro died when he didn't simply because he overheard two officials talking about plans for the city of Miami when he does. He wrote that Michael Jackson was pulling a publicity stunt when he first went in to cardiac arrest. He has been sued before for defamation, copyright infringement for playing unreleased Britney Spears music, offering a link to Will Farrel's recorded sex tape, showing a fake topless picture of Jennifer Aniston. Even the paparazzi are complaining that Perez steals photos from their websites. Just recently, Perez has been accused of accepting nude photos from a man in return for helping him with his struggling website. Perez has not held up his side of the bargain and the optimistic blogger said he feels used. Perez has also been accused of doing drugs like cocaine, ecstacy and more.
We'll see how long Mr. Hilton can keep up his business of dishing dirt while constantly teetering on the edge of the law. Just by reading about Perez Hilton and all the controversy he has caused, it seems like this guy craves some seriously negative attention. You would think that with his Bachelor's degree from NYU that he would try to push for a more respectable position in the art world. Evidently, Perez wants to take the easy road, but how easy can it be when you are getting sued left and right and constantly having to show up in court and come face to face with the stars whose image you've tarnished? Nevertheless, his "bad business" has certainly made him a star and the crazier his antics get, the more people he attracts. Radio hosts and bloggers use Hilton's website for the latest Hollywood gossip even though Hilton has proved himself to be an unreliable source in the past. People know that when they visit this website they will be in for something new and interesting- something to chat with their friends about- even if it doesn't end up being true! I almost had respect for Hilton for the simple fact that he managed to create and entire career out of sitting on his behind all day and spending his nights with Hollywood stars but when I learned about the drugs and the lawsuits and, in a way, him giving up on his NYU education I was convinced that he is in fact Hollywood sleaze.
"I'm doing things on my own terms. I don't have to answer to anyone but me."- Perez
"If I was the kind to have regrets, I wouldn't be doing what I'm doing."- Perez
" I get stories because people know that I will never lie or make things up or pay for information. I apply a journalistic standard to my work."- Perez
"Does perez hilton..whatever his name really is..have no heart at all?Don't ever attack my family again.Sad to know u hate so deeply.Sad 4 U"- Jessica Simpson on Twitter in November
"Perez Hilton obviously found a great formula. So did Robert Oppenheimer. It doesn't mean it's good for the public."- Editor at Radaronline.com
