The R4/R4 DS Cartridge is the current top-of-the-line in DS SLOT-1 flash carts. It is just an amazing little device like original DS cart size, it is a complete solution with no need to purchase any additional components or deal with any messy software and truly the easiest media enhancer you have ever done; To simply put it, this is a must have peripheral for any regular DS/DS lite owner.
An R4 DS gives you the ability to perform numerous functions with your Nintendo DS handheld console. Place the flash cartridge in one of the slots of the DS and instantly enhance gameplay. Multiple models are available, so you need to learn how to choose an R4 DS.
Look at the functionality of the R4 DS. Select an R4 DS with the ability to easily enhance your use of the Nintendo DS. Features to look for include supporting ROMs and multimedia files, easy drag and drop file transfer, and plug and play capabilities.
Determine if the R4 DS you want supports the different features of your model DS. You'll need to find out if the flash cartridge supports the touch screen, lite and WiFi options of your particular DS.

Though setting up the R4 DS takes little time, some applications require users to install the latest firmware on the R4 DS. Updating your R4 card takes only a few minutes.
Remove the DS SLOT-1 adapter from your Nintendo DS. Remove the MicroSD card from the adapter.
Insert the MicroSD card into the USB adapter. Plug the adapter into a USB port on your PC.
Open the MicroSD folder, which will appear as a removable disk drive on your PC. If you have any save files or important data on your MicroSD drive, copy them to your PC to prevent potential data loss.
Visit the R4 DS website and download the latest kernel folder (see Resources).
Open the kernel folder with WinRAR or another decompression program. Extract the folder to your desktop.
Select the contents of the kernel folder and drag them into your MicroSD drive. Click "Replace All" when prompted to update your MicroSD drive contents.
Eject the MicroSD drive from your computer and remove it from the USB adapter. Insert the MicroSD drive into the DS SLOT-1 adapter and insert the adapter into your DS.
