You'd like to back up and protect your favorite PS2 games, but don't know how to begin. Don't fret. It's easy if you have the right tools for the job, the most important of which is a special game copying software application. First, you have to alter the Xbox 360 to use the homebrew soft. By doing this you will void the warranty. You can also try to run GameFly. You can also search the XboxScene if you want to get more information. After you altered the Xbox and have the .ISO file, you can get on with it. Make sure you will use quality media to do this file. In order to get the video game, you have to use Dual Layer DVDs. They are very different from DVD-R or DVD+R. You need to check if on your DVD it is written DVD-DL. Then you know you have the right disc.

You can use Verbatim brand as they are very reliable. Or, you can try Memorex, which they are also good. The software you will use is Imgburn and you can download it from the internet, going to imgburn.com. After you install the software utility, you have to use the settings menu to change the break of the layer to L0 = 1913760. This change allows the program to create a layer break on that disc. This break is responsible for telling Xbox 360 that the disc inside is authentic. So make sure you change that setting and you will not have any problems.

After this, all will go smooth. You need to open your file and adjust the speed of the burning. Make sure you use less than the maximum speed of the burner. It is safer this way. There are people saying that this measure is useless but I have noticed that no disc will break if it is burned on a lower (like 2.4x) burning speed. The disc is ready and all you need is to press play.

If you suspect that your hard drive/disk drive is failing, you need to back up your data immediately. A Disk drive is most likely to fail as your computer is starting up. So if you have reason to believe your hard drive is about to fail, back up now before you turn your computer off. The next time you turn it on might be too late. Your Disk drive contains several spinning disks, which means mechanical elements. It is just as likely these mechanical elements could cause your hard drive to fail, as can malicious Software, viruses and poor maintenance. It is rare, though not unknown, for a Disk drive to suddenly fail.

Usually there are signs, in the way of more frequent error messages, sluggish response and mechanical noise. All Disk drives make some noise, usually a soft whirring background noise. If you have noticed your hard drive becoming louder with a grinding sound, then this is a sure sign of trouble. If you start to hear 'clicking' noises from your disk drive, most noticeable as it loads your Operating System or other Programs, then mechanical failure is imminent. You need to back up and save your important files now.

Don't wait until tomorrow and do not turn your PC off. If it's impossible for you to back up the entire main drive, then at least save all your personnel files and those precious Photographs. You can easily copy or 'burn' then to CD's, make two or more copies for safety. No CD-R's to hand? Then copy them onto a Flash Memory Stick. However, if you do use a Flash Drive, I would still recommend you get them onto CD's, or DVD's as soon as you are able. Flash Drives have a limited life. Once you have your most important files and photographs safe, you can then think about a full back up.

The quickest and easiest method to back up everything is to an External hard drive. These have come down a lot in price recently so it's worth considering, even if your hard drive is as quiet as a mouse, it's reassuring to have one with all your files backed up on it, just in case. Again, it is extremely rare for a disk drive to suddenly fail. I have been working with Computers since 1978 and I have known only one. So become familiar with the sound of your hard drive, then if that familiar humm' becomes louder, you will know you need to save your files. And really, you should have a back up anyway.

Most computer users, like myself, understand very little about the technical problems of a system. But we all know that just because we don't know or understand it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. The problem with hard drives is that we don't know what is going on inside it. We only hear sounds etc and can seldom diagnose the problem ourselves.

My computer started giving me some trouble some days back. I heard some screeching sounds coming from the drive. For several days I ignored them. But then one day it just wouldn't start. I could hear the 'fan' start and then stop within a few minutes, but the system wouldn't start. I'm sure many people face this problem. There are certain simple symptoms to it:

You can hear screeching or beeping sounds from the drive.

The system and all your applications run very slowly.

The final step is of course when your system won't start. Like most people in my situation, I panicked. I thought I had lost all my data, and added to that I would have to bear the brunt of buying a new system.

Since I'm not a computer expert, I called -+ Disk Recovery Service to help me diagnose the problem. They explained it to me very simply.

The hard drive, is made of many components and is thus very sensitive.

The 'Platter' is where all the information/data is stored in the HDD (hard disk drive).

The 'Shaft Motor' rotates the platter, while the 'Read-Write Head' reads and writes the data from/to them.

The Voice Coil' helps in movement of the Read-Write Head

The 'Head Assembly' maintains a distance between the platter and the head.

A single parts failure could lead to the whole drive stalling. This doesn't always mean that we need to buy a new computer, as I used to think!! It only means that the particular part needs to be either repaired or replaced. Data Recovery Services not only offer 'recovery services' but also repair services.

Data recovery company then took my computer to their lab, and repaired the faulty motor spindle and then returned the system with all it's data intact. Since they have a 'No Data, No Charge' policy, I knew I had nothing to lose in letting them try. And it worked. I have my system back-perfectly fit and fine-with all its data intact and the charge wasn't half as much as that of buying a whole new system!!
