Is there a game for playstation, that's close to or like mario brothers?

Ok, I know that nintendo will never let playstation use Mario brothers for one of their games( all though it would be really cool if they did!) But I really like this kind of play/action, and was wondering if anyone knows a game that is like mario brothers or similar in any way, that you have played and enjoyed?

The Crash Bandicoot series is similiar to the Mario series, as well as the Spyro series...however the newer Spyros arent very good.
