You can stream all your media with ease. Don't let the Microsoft fanboys have all the fun.

The last few months has seen a number of significant updates released for the Playstation 3, all of which have increased the console's functionality. Like the Xbox 360, you can use Windows Media Player 11 to share your media and view it using the Playstation 3.

However, just as with the Xbox, Windows Media is a temperamental beast and can cause irrational anger and the urge to chuck the controller at the TV when it stops working properly. In our experience, you are much better off using Tversity (www.tversity.com), which also works with the Xbox. However, you will need to configure your router to make it work correctly, but it's a two-minute job and is pretty simple.

First of all download Tversity and leave all the settings at the defaults. You may want to download FFDShow (sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow) and any other additional codecs you use regularly. You'll need to change your Windows or third-party firewall settings to allow mediaserver.exe, which is found in the Tversity folder, access to the internet.

Configure your router, by typing its IP address into your web browser's address bar, it's usually 192.168.0.1, but if it isn't, run ipconfig from a command prompt to determine your PC's IP address and use the first IP in that range for your router. Within your router's control panel you find that you'll need to edit the section for virtual servers or port-forwarding, and allow access to port 41952.

In addition, just as with the Xbox, you can use Orb with the Playstation 3, although instead of using the folder sharing, you use the built-in browser and navigate to mycast.orb.com.

How to download off the Playstation store for PSP demos?

I don't know how to download PSP demos off the playstation store!

The process for downloading PSP demos from the PSN (PlayStation Network™) Store is very similar to downloading PS3 demos. There are two ways to go about this. You will need a PS3 and an internet connection for the first method.
First, you must login using your PSN username and password, of course after setting up your internet configuration and creating a username and password via your PS3.
Next, enter the Playstation Store (Main Menu>Network>Playstation Store), and select "Game Demos".
Then, select "PSP Demos" and search for the one you want. Now, click "Add to Cart" and later "Download". This will download the demo to your PS3.
After it is completed, the download will appear under Main Menu>Game>[Demo Name Here]. Next, connect your PSP to your PS3 via. MINI USB cable. (It is included with the PS3.) When it is connected, select (click on) the demo you want and then it will ask you if you want to copy the demo to the PSP. Provided you have enough Memory Stick™ or Memory Stick Duo™ space left, click yes. The data will be copied to your PSP.
After all this is complete, disconnect your PSP. You can now delete the demo data from your PS3.

OR

You can login on the PSN after creating an account and download the demo via PSP.
To do this, simply enter the Playstation Store (Main Menu>Network>Playstation Store), ON THE PSP and select "Game Demos".
Then, select "PSP Demos" and search for the one you want. Now, click "Add to Cart" and later "Download". This will download the demo to your PSP.

The first method is faster but requires a PS3. The second is hindered by the PSP's excruciatingly slow download speeds, but only requires a PSP and an internet connection.

PowerMat is a new device on the market that allows you to wirelessly charge a range of gadgets, such as cellphones and handheld video games. You just drop them on the PowerMat - its magnets pull each device into the optimal position for charging, and then charge it via magnetic fields. Lights and sounds indicate the status of the device and tell you when it is fully charged (at which point the PowerMat is clever enough to switch off).

What devices can you charge with PowerMat and how do you do it? These devices fall into three main categories: cellphones (mobile phones), handheld games consoles, and miscellaneous devices. For some devices there are special receivers that are attached to the device for convenient wireless charging. Other devices have to be charged with a more conventional wired connector - for this purpose the PowerMat comes with a dedicated PowerCube Universal Receiver and multiple connectors (known as 'tips').

Cellphones:

• Apple iPhone 3G: There is dedicated support for the iPhone 3G; it requires the fitting of a special PowerMat compatible receiver case (purchased separately). The iPhone can also be charged with a special PowerCube Apple tip (included) or receiver dock (purchased separately).
• Apple iPhone 3GS: A dedicated receiver is close to launch for the iPhone 3GS. In the meantime use the special PowerCube Apple tip (included) or receiver dock (purchased separately).
• Apple iPhone (other models): Use the special PowerCube Apple tip (included) or receiver dock (purchased separately).

Note that the receiver backs do not need to be removed for game play. Receivers for other game consoles are under development.

Other Devices:

• iPod Touch: There is dedicated support for the iPod Touch; it requires fitting a special PowerMat compatible receiver case (purchased separately). The iPod Touch can also be charged with a special PowerCube Apple tip (included) or receiver dock (purchased separately).
• iPod (other models): Use Apple tip (included) or receiver dock (purchased separately).
• GPS devices: Use mini-USB tip (included).
• Some Kodak cameras: Use Sony PSP tip (included).

It can be seen that there is very good coverage of most handheld devices by the PowerMat. However, many of these have to be charged using the PowerCube so if true wireless capability for particular devices is important then it is worthwhile checking to ensure that receivers are available for them.

Ever since its debut with the first Xbox console, Microsoft became a serious contender in the video game industry. It featured a simple, yet very innovative and successful idea: to install a hard drive in the console itself. Before that, all consoles needed to save the game's progress in several small memory cards. They were very small, prone to get lost and didn't really as much memory as was needed. Other consoles had the memory inserted in the cartridges themselves, but that required a battery that died with time.

Years later, Microsoft tried to improve on its success and presented its new console for the latest video game generation, the Xbox 360. It came out around a year earlier than the other next-generation consoles.

However, like any machine, it tends to have technical problems and break down. It sometimes scratches disks. Other times it overheats. Other times it just stops working all of a sudden, and other times it just won't start up.

Sending the console to Microsoft will only solve the problem temporally, as the problem will arise again, due to the nature of the console. Each time it will take 3 or 4 weeks, until your guarantee expires. Depending on the country you live in, it might take longer or the service might not be available at all.There really is no point in losing that much time, or pay a technician when you could be doing it yourself.

Whatever the problem is, you don't need to wait 4 weeks for Microsoft to fix your console or study a major in electronics to get your console up and running again.
